Message from our Principal:
As we begin the year 2009, I look forward to the learning that will continue to occur at Salem Elementary. Thank you for taking the time to look through our website. The students and staff at Salem Elementary strive for success everyday. Our teachers plan together each week sharing their knowledge and talents with each other to ensure a successful instructional program.
We are partners in your child’s education. We provide outstanding teachers, a caring and supportive staff, and a safe and fun learning environment for your children. As our partners, we need you to instill in your children the value of education. Some of the best ways to do this are making sure your child arrives each day on time and ready to learn, helping them with homework, and talking with them about ideas and topics that they’re studying in school. I also strongly encourage you to read to and with your children, regardless of their age, as this is one of the best ways to foster their love of reading while building their skills.Parent support is vital to the growth of your children. We have an energetic, dedicated Parent Teacher Association (PTA) that has achieved 100% membership already this year. We invite you in for a visit anytime.
Take a few minutes to browse through out website and visit the teacher pages. They have posted information and resources to help you assist your child. If you need me for anything, I can be reached at (757) 648-3680 or www.jzitt@vbschools.com.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Zitt
Message from our Assistant Principal:
Welcome to Salem Elementary and the New Year 2009! What an exciting year ahead of us!
January is Reading Month and the theme is “Exercise your Right to Read”. Ask your child about their Reading Log. Some of our fifth grade boys and girls are producing, directing and presenting our morning announcements using our new closed circuit TV station. All students are working hard learning to read, learning math, creating art work, singing new music, and getting fit in PE.
Parents, be involved in your child’s education. Ask about their day; check their homework and planner. Most importantly, talk with them about the importance of doing well in school.
I look forward to a productive 2009 school year, and serving all the Salem boys and girls.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dale
